Official Announcement
Fans have been waiting for a new God of War game for quite some time, and in late 2017 we finally got that announcement. God of War has always been unique and exciting, but fans are wondering if it’ll be as good as previous iterations. We’re going to take an in-depth look at everything we know so far about God of War: Raganarok, including our thoughts on what it may add or subtract from previous games!
Development History
The first installment in Santa Monica Studio’s rebooted action-adventure video game series, titled simply God of War, was released for PlayStation 2 in March 2005. It was critically acclaimed, winning several awards and selling nearly five million copies worldwide by August 2012, making it one of the best-selling PlayStation 2 games. A sequel, God of War II, was released in March 2007. The third installment, entitled God of War III, was released in March 2010 on PlayStation 3 (PS3). On May 6, 2012, Sony announced that a next installment would be made exclusively for PS3. This new installment became God of War: Ascension, which released in March 2013. Another installment, again exclusive to PS3, is currently being developed by SCE Santa Monica Studio and will be published by Sony Computer Entertainment; its title has not yet been revealed.
Team Behind the Game
The development team is larger than any previous title in franchise history, and they’re excited about showing off what they’ve created. This is quite a dramatic departure from past games in that it’s being helmed by Cory Barlog, who previously directed 2010’s God of War III (he was also involved with 2013’s Ascension). Although Barlog is better known for his work at Sony Santa Monica Studios, he did serve as director on another game from Ready At Dawn Studios: The Order: 1886. But if there’s one thing we should know about Barlog, it’s that he knows how to reinvent a series.
